Make Your Own Stamp Book + Mini Lecture of Gion Festival + Studio Tour

Create a one-of-a-kind stamp book using exclusive Karakami (hand-printed decorative paper) featuring special patterns available only during the Gion Festival. Learn about traditional motifs used on the Yamaboko floats and other festival-inspired designs through a mini lecture. Enjoy a behind-the-scenes tour of the karakami workshop and take a short 10-minute stroll to visit spots connected to the Gion Festival.


What Makes This Experience Special:
For this workshop, you’ll use custom karakami sheets—each hand-printed by skilled artisans. You can choose from three Gion Festival limited patterns: Yotsumaru-ryu (Four Circles Dragon), Tatsunami (Rising Waves), or Edoume (Plum Branch). Learn about the history and decorative use of these patterns on the festival floats. Immerse yourself in the spirit of the Gion Festival through its unique motifs—Recall the patterns you learned during the workshop as you explore the festival floats, and use the stamp book you created to collect special float stamps—offering a deeper appreciation of the Gion Festival's rich cultural heritage.

Karakami Postcards Printing

You can make hand printed post cards by using woodblocks of our traditional patterns. You’ll have choice of many colored papers with silver and gold paints and you will make colors by mixing pigments.

Karakami Printing

In our studio you can experience all aspects of Karakami making.You will print by using genuine woodblocks which brought us over 100years.
You can combine three different woodblocks, more than 20 colours of Washi paper and two colours of paint to make three sheets of Karakami.
You will also have the opportunity to see the studio where the artisan is printing Karakami.

Karakami Stampbook Making

You will choose your favorite motif from three woodblocks and print on the Washi paper selected from 20 colors.
We prepare differen patterns for each season from the authentic woodblocks used by our artisans. After printing Karakami, you make covers and make your own stampbook.

Karakami Panel Making

You will print Karakami by using genuine woodblocks with our traditional patterns and make a panel as an interior decoration.
You can choose your favourite colour from a range of colourful Washi paper made in Echizen. The patterns you can print also change by seasons.

Japanese Lamp Making

Using a special Washi paper, you will print traditional patterns with a woodblock and fold it to make a shape of Japanese Lamp. As we use the semi-transparent Japanese paper, you can see the patterns beautifully floated when lighted. *A cordless LED bulb is included so yo don't need to worry about the differences in voltage or the shape of the electrical outlets. Also You can disassemble the lamp as a sheet of karakami paper, bulb and bamboo frame so it is very easy to take it back home.
